NIISwa Fellowships

Currently, we offer four Fellowship positions: 

1x Interventional Neuroradiology Fellowship

3x Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellowships

All Fellowships are for a minimum period of 12 months but can be extended beyond this by mutual arrangement.

The interventional Neuroradiology fellow is involved in a 1:4 on call system with the three diagnostic fellows. Close supervision is provided by a Consultant on call.

Interventional Fellowship:

The Interventional Fellowship is dedicated to INR and is designed for persons who wish to pursue INR as a significant part of their future career. Approximately 220 NeuroInterventions are performed annually. This includes approximately 100 brain aneurysm coilings and 50 carotid artery stents.

The next available start date for the Interventional Neuroradiology Fellowship is January 2019.

Diagnostic Fellowship:

The Diagnostic Fellowships both include spinal interventions such as lumbar punctures, facet joint injections, nerve root sleeve injections, myelography, epidural injections and spinal/paravertebral biopsy. Diagnostic Catheter Cerebral Angiography is included on an individual basis by mutual agreement. The Diagnostic Fellows rotate between the RPH & SCGH campuses on a limited basis.

The next available start date for a Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellowship is January 2019.

  1. Your prior experience in both diagnostic and interventional radiology.
  2. Your training preference with regards to the Fellowships on offer.
  3. Whether you are interested in one or two years of Fellowship training.
  4. Whether you possess any external funding.
  5. Specific career goals once you have completed the Fellowship.
  6. If you plan to undertake the Australasian College of Radiology Board Exams as part of your career goals during your tenure in Australia?

FRANZCR eligibility or equivalent board certification is a requirement.
